A grade is more than a name
Steel grades refer to defined characteristics under specific standards. They may include chemical composition, strength, toughness or other properties. Always use the complete designation required by your project.
Standards describe requirements
A standard can set manufacturing, dimensional, testing and acceptance requirements. Include its designation and relevant edition where your project requires one. Avoid assuming two standards are equivalent.
Request documentation explicitly
If you need mill test documentation, heat-number traceability, inspection reports or origin information, list those requirements in your enquiry. Confirm what will be supplied before placing an order.
Review proposed substitutions
Availability can affect proposed options. Any substitution of grade, section, thickness or process needs an appropriate technical review. A commercial quotation does not replace engineering approval.
