Start with the product and application
Name the material family and explain its intended use. A request for structural beams should identify the section series; a request for pipe should state whether the application is structural, mechanical or pressure-related.
Specify the grade and standard
Include the complete grade designation and applicable standard or project specification. Similar grade names do not guarantee interchangeability. Any proposed equivalent should be reviewed by your engineer before acceptance.
Make dimensions unambiguous
State units, thickness, width, length and any relevant tolerances. For hollow sections, include outside dimensions and wall thickness. For reinforcing bar, include diameter and required length.
Add quantities and delivery requirements
Specify whether your quantity is in tonnes, kilograms or pieces. Provide the delivery destination and required date. These are request details, not a guarantee of delivery coverage or timing.
Document quality requirements
List any required mill test certificates, inspection documents, coating requirements or traceability conditions. Their availability must be confirmed as part of the written quotation.
